MDS (Oral Surgery)
Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery represents a challenging and exciting Dentistry discipline which combines Medical, Dental and Surgical knowledge and skills.
Oral and maxillofacial surgery is responsible for the surgical treatment of acquired, congenital and traumatic issues related to the jaws and facial regions as well developmental diseases of these areas. Facial fractures, head and neck cancers and salivary gland diseases are the other areas in which the department plays a key role. Major surgeries include those for maxillofacial traumas, cysts and tumours, oral cancer, orthognathic surgery, bone graft, distraction and cleft lip and cleft palate. The department trains students at the UG and PG levels in the surgical procedures conducted and enables them to gain the necessary knowledge and skills.
Scope of Oral & Maxillofacial Surgery
Scope of this discipline is extensive and incorporates Surgical & Non-Surgical Management of conditions of the soft and hard tissues of the Face, Jaws and Neck. Majority of Job Opportunities for a PG in this discipline are available in Research Institutes, Universities, Colleges & Hospitals.
Surgeons in this field can get recruited in Top Dental Colleges to the posts of Professors and even HODs. They also hold the opportunity to get employed in the Oral & Maxillofacial Department of Reputed Government & Private Hospitals.
Trained practitioners in this field can establish their own Dental Clinic and opportunities also exist in the areas of Forensic Science, Armed Forces & Railways.
